Every season is beautiful when it comes to riding an eBike. However, there are some things you should consider before going on a ride in cold, rainy and snowy weather:
Your battery range depends on the Watt-hours (Wh) capacity of your eBike. For example, the TOP 3.0i battery has 72V 48Ah, meaning it has 3456 Wh. Now, considering an eBike spends around 30W 20W per hour, its range will be around 172 miles on a single charge. 3456 / 20 = 172.8
Electric bike range can be calculated in a few simple steps once you know the values that need to be used in the formula. The simplest thing to know is the lower the speed and the higher the battery capacity, the longer the electric bike range. To calculate range, you’ll need to find the Voltage and Amp hours of the battery and we’ll supply the Watt-hour per mile. Multiply the Voltage (V) and Amp hours (Ah) of the battery to get the Watt-hour (Wh) value. Then take the Wh value and divide it by the number of Watt-hours that are consumed per mile. The average electric bike consumption is around 20Wh per mile.
Let’s calculate the estimated range of the Delfast long-range eBike, the Top 3.0i, as an example using the 20Wh per mile consumption:
The Delfast long-range e bike battery is 72V 48Ah.
72 x 48 = 3456 Wh. 3456Wh divided by 20Wh per mile = 172.8 miles of range on a single charge. Keep in mind that conditions such as temperature, terrain, speed, level of pedal assistance and of course battery capacity will all made a difference in range.
If the Top 3.0i is being operated in a flat area, on smooth terrain and no wind resistance the average consumption will be around 15Wh per mile. This is what helped Delfast achieve the Guinness World Record for an electric bike’s longest range on a single charge.
3456Wh divided by 15Wh per mile = 230.4 miles.
On rocky, hilly terrain, such as an offroad scenario with substantial incline, the average consumption is closer to 25Wh per mile (or higher).
3456Wh divided by 25Wh per mile = 138.24 miles.
The exact numbers are hard to calculate by hand since all the variables above change so constantly.
